Bruno Guimaraes is reportedly travelling to join Newcastle United's pre-season camp in Spain, contrary to suggestions that he was set for a medical at Arsenal.
Sky Sports reported on Monday morning that the Brazil midfielder was en route to Newcastle's base at La Manga, rather than completing a move to the Gunners worth around £80 million.
Guimaraes heads for talks with Jaissle
According to The Chronicle, Guimaraes left Brazil on a commercial flight on Sunday night, as agreed with the club. He is understood to have informed Newcastle of his desire to join Arsenal in July.
The Newcastle captain is now expected to hold talks over his future with new head coach Matthias Jaissle, who is with the players in Spain despite his official confirmation as Eddie Howe's successor being delayed by a paperwork issue.
Newcastle have been planning for life without Guimaraes, with a host of potential replacements linked, including Inter Milan and Croatia midfielder Petar Sucic.
Vinicius Jr returns to Madrid
Guimaraes' return to Newcastle training on Monday mirrors that of Brazil team-mate and fellow Arsenal transfer target Vinicius Jr. Arsenal are ready to launch an ambitious move for the forward amid his contract stand-off with Real Madrid, where he now has less than 12 months left on his current deal.
Madrid boss Jose Mourinho confirmed after Saturday's 2-2 friendly draw with Fiorentina in Austria that Vinicius Jr would report back for training on Monday as expected, alongside Brahim Diaz and new recruit Bernardo Silva. The winger was pictured arriving at the club's complex in Valdebebas.
Arsenal's summer business so far
Arsenal have made only two new signings this summer as they prepare for their Premier League title defence, spending £34 million on Greek winger Christos Tzolis from Club Brugge and adding free agent goalkeeper Illan Meslier following his exit from Leeds.
The Gunners also triggered their £34.5 million option to convert Ecuador defender Piero Hincapie's season-long loan move from Bayer Leverkusen into a permanent transfer.
