Aaron Ramsey has shared a heartwarming story about receiving a touching gift from football legend David Beckham following his horrific leg break in 2010. The Welsh midfielder, who sustained a double fracture in his right leg while playing for Arsenal against Stoke City, was sidelined for nine months during an intensive rehabilitation period.
Beckham's Personal Message on Milan Shirt
Ramsey revealed that Beckham sent him a signed AC Milan shirt with a personal message during his recovery. "I've got a couple of shirts that really mean a lot to me," Ramsey said. "The one that stands out for me though is I've got a David Beckham shirt personalised when I broke my leg. He wrote a lovely message on the back of his shirt, it was a Milan shirt. That's definitely one that meant a lot and especially going through what I was going through at the time."
Ramsey's Career Journey After Recovery
The midfielder made a full recovery from his injury and went on to make 369 appearances for Arsenal, scoring 64 goals and helping the North London club win three FA Cups and two Community Shields. After leaving Arsenal on a free transfer, Ramsey spent three seasons with Italian giants Juventus before subsequent moves to Rangers, Nice, Cardiff City, and most recently Mexican side Pumas UNAM.
Ramsey's contract with Pumas UNAM was terminated earlier this season, leaving him currently without a club. Speaking about his departure from Mexico, Ramsey expressed gratitude to the Mexican people and Pumas staff while acknowledging his disappointment at the contract termination.
Transition to Coaching
As he searches for a new club, Ramsey has revealed his interest in moving into coaching. "Yes, absolutely," he told talkSPORT when asked about coaching. "That's a route that I never thought I'd take, but definitely in the last few years I've done my badges, I'm on the Pro License Course at the moment."
Ramsey has already gained coaching experience with Cardiff City's Under-18s and took charge of the senior team for three matches. He also spent time with the Wales national team setup, gaining insight into coaching at the international level. "It's addictive, so I definitely see myself going into that space," he added about his coaching aspirations.
The revelation about Beckham's gesture comes more than fifteen years after Ramsey's devastating injury, highlighting how such acts of support from fellow professionals can have lasting significance for players during difficult recovery periods.
