Mikel Arteta has given the latest on Arsenal's injuries ahead of their Champions League semi-final first leg against Atletico Madrid on Wednesday night. The Gunners face the Spanish side in Spain following a nervy 1-0 win over Newcastle in the Premier League.
Havertz ruled out, Eze available
Arteta confirmed that Kai Havertz will miss the match after going off injured in the win over Newcastle. However, goalscorer Eberechi Eze is fit to play. "Kai is out but Ebs is ready to go," Arteta said in his pre-match press conference.
Calafiori and Saka fit
When asked about Riccardo Calafiori and Bukayo Saka, Arteta confirmed: "Those two are available for tomorrow." However, Jurrien Timber is not in the squad for the tie after missing the last eight games with a groin injury sustained in March.
Arsenal finished top of the Champions League table and remain unbeaten in the competition this season, having beaten Bayer Leverkusen and Sporting Lisbon in the knockout stages.
Simeone's view
Atletico Madrid boss Diego Simeone acknowledged the challenge: "We are going to face a tough game with a very good opponent and with a set-piece strategy that is very well worked." He added: "There is no pressure, there is responsibility and excitement of being close to a huge goal that the club has never achieved."
