Arsenal set to announce Bruno Guimaraes deal after medical

Arsenal are poised to announce the signing of Bruno Guimaraes from Newcastle United after the midfielder passed his medical on Thursday.

Deal details

The Gunners agreed a deal worth around £75 million, potentially rising to £80 million, for the Brazil international. Guimaraes has signed a four-year contract running until the summer of 2030.

Transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano reported that the medical was completed successfully, with official confirmation expected soon. Guimaraes has already held talks with manager Mikel Arteta.

Arteta stays quiet

Arteta refused to comment on the saga following Wednesday's 3-1 friendly defeat to Real Betis in Dublin. "I'm not going to talk about any players who aren't Arsenal players," he said. Asked again, he added: "Well, I can tell you at the moment that something happens and we can announce it. I will give you my straight answer."

Summer signings

Guimaraes will be Arsenal's fourth summer signing, following Christos Tzolis (£34m from Club Brugge), Illan Meslier (free agent), and Piero Hincapie (permanent deal from Bayer Leverkusen for around £34.5m).

Vinicius Jr watch

Arsenal are also awaiting a decision from Vinicius Jr on his Real Madrid future. The reigning Premier League champions are ready to move for the Brazilian superstar, who has entered the final 12 months of his contract. However, contract talks with Madrid are said to have gone well, with the club confident he will extend.

Defender Riccardo Calafiori said after the Betis loss: "We are on that level now. We are on top. We want to win the league again and we want to be even better than last season if we can. We need these kind of players, I think." On Guimaraes, he asked: "Is it official yet?"
