Arsenal are closing in on the signing of Newcastle United captain Bruno Guimaraes, with all parties keen to finalise the deal. The 28-year-old Brazilian has agreed personal terms and is awaiting permission from Newcastle to undergo a medical, according to reports.
Meanwhile, midfielder Christian Norgaard has completed a medical at Everton ahead of his permanent move from Arsenal. The 32-year-old Dane, who joined the Gunners from Brentford last year for an initial £10m plus £2m in add-ons, will move to Goodison Park for £7m.
Norgaard's Arsenal Exit Confirmed
Norgaard made just seven Premier League appearances last season, none as a starter, but was highly respected for his leadership in the dressing room. He leaves north London as a Premier League champion, having been part of the squad that won the title.
The midfielder was with the Arsenal squad in Girona for the 4-1 pre-season victory on Saturday but did not play as talks with Everton advanced. He was given approval to complete formalities and will sign a multi-year deal with the Toffees.
Guimaraes Shows Professionalism
Guimaraes joined Newcastle's pre-season training camp in Spain on Monday, posting an image of himself at La Manga, despite reports linking him with a move to Arsenal. He had been given an extended break after the World Cup and was expected to return on Sunday, but the club agreed to let him arrive a day later.
The Magpies rejected an opening bid of £75m from Arsenal earlier this week, but the Gunners are expected to wrap up the deal shortly. Guimaraes has told Newcastle of his desire to leave but will not force a move if the clubs cannot agree a fee.
Arsenal have had a quiet transfer window so far, with sporting director Andrea Berta only making Piero Hincapie's loan permanent and signing goalkeeper Illan Meslier as a free agent. The club are also looking to sell surplus players like Fabio Vieira, Reiss Nelson, and Gabriel Jesus.
