Vinicius Junior is preparing to rejoin Real Madrid amid ongoing speculation over a possible move to Arsenal. The 26-year-old is a transfer target for the Gunners, who are exploring a deal for the Brazil international as Mikel Arteta looks to strengthen his attacking options.
However, any move depends on contract negotiations between Vinicius Jr and the LaLiga club. The forward has entered the final 12 months of his deal at the Santiago Bernabeu, and it has been widely reported that he wants to stay in Spain's capital. Real Madrid, meanwhile, are said to be reluctant to risk losing him for nothing next summer, meaning an agreement must be reached or a switch to Arsenal could become a realistic possibility.
Contract talks scheduled
According to The Athletic, the two sides are due to hold discussions next week to settle the matter, making the coming days crucial in determining the Brazil star's immediate future.
Vinicius Jr is currently on holiday after being given time off following Brazil's last-16 exit to Norway at the World Cup on July 5. Players are entitled to a mandatory 21 days off over the summer, and that period ends for him this weekend. He is therefore expected to report back to Real Madrid for the start of pre-season on Monday.
Mourinho's pre-season concerns
As it stands, Vinicius Jr could be involved in the friendly against Ferencvaros on August 8. However, Jose Mourinho has revealed concerns about the length of time he will have to work with his entire squad.
