Mason Mount Could Be Handed Career Lifeline by Ruben Amorim at AC Milan

Ruben Amorim's brief and turbulent tenure at Manchester United ended in January, but the Portuguese coach's next chapter at AC Milan could offer a lifeline to one current United player: Mason Mount. The 27-year-old midfielder has struggled for game time at Old Trafford, and a reunion with Amorim in Serie A might provide the regular football he desperately needs.

Mount's situation at United has become increasingly difficult. Under Michael Carrick, who reinstated the 4-2-3-1 formation after Amorim's departure, Bruno Fernandes is the first-choice in Mount's preferred position. Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo, Amad, and Patrick Dorgu also rank ahead of him in the attacking options. Even in deeper roles, Kobbie Mainoo has locked down a spot, and Mount is not seen as a natural replacement for Casemiro.

However, Mount enjoyed a brief spell in the team under Amorim in November and December, when Mbeumo left for the Africa Cup of Nations. After scoring against Wolves in December, Amorim praised Mount's leadership and versatility, calling him 'a very, very good player' who 'leads by example.' This positive relationship could make Mount a willing follower to Milan.

While there is no suggestion of a move yet, Mount needs regular games at 27 and is unlikely to find them at United next season. A switch to AC Milan, where Amorim is now in charge, could be tempting. If Mount can stay fit, Amorim's faith in him might revive a career that has stalled at Old Trafford.
