Stirling Albion made a winning start to their League Two campaign, beating Dumbarton 2-0 at Forthbank thanks to a Jordan Allan brace. The hosts looked the more organised side and stretched their run of opening-day league victories to three in a row.
Manager Steven Whittaker made one change from the defeat at Arbroath, bringing Zeke Cameron into the starting XI in place of Murray Thomas. Dumbarton, who had beaten Cove Rangers in their final Premier Sports Cup warm-up, named an unchanged side. Former Ballymena defender Ali Gould and returning Billy Hutchison were among the Stirling substitutes, while Celtic loanee Owen Hartington was on the Dumbarton bench.
Early chances and a penalty breakthrough
Daniel Dobbie's teasing free-kick appeared to have been turned in by Kyle Banner after only two minutes, but celebrations were cut short by the linesman's flag. Dumbarton responded with a glorious opportunity on seven minutes, when Josiah Sowa's deep cross found Deryn Lang and his goalbound effort was hacked off the line by Banner.
Albion were handed a golden opening when Ali Omar brought down Jordan Allan inside the area, and the striker confidently tucked away the resulting penalty. Scott Honeyman then curled a weak effort straight at Andy McNeil, while Sam Denham glanced a header narrowly wide and Callum Crane struck the crossbar from 30 yards.

The second half was quiet until ten minutes in, when Kyle Banner's neat through ball released Lucas Fyfe. Fyfe broke the Dumbarton offside trap and slid a cross for Allan to finish from six yards.
Another corner, this time from Zeke Cameron, picked out Banner at the far post, and Kevin Waugh flicked his header narrowly wide. At the other end, Leighton McIntosh side-footed over from seven yards after a corner swung in by substitute Owen Hartington.
Dumbarton push but cannot find a way back
Stirling goalkeeper Andy McNeil was called into action with 15 minutes remaining, scooping a curling Deryn Lang strike from 20 yards wide. Russell McLean became a pantomime villain for the away support, but almost had the final say with a snapshot from a narrow angle that forced a save from Aidan Rice. Kristian Webster's raking late shot flew over the bar to cap a frustrating afternoon for the Sons.
