Bayern Munich forward Jamal Musiala appeared to pass out during the team's pre-season friendly against RB Leipzig, requiring teammate Ismael Saibari to catch him before he fell. The incident occurred in the closing stages of the match, played in 33-degree heat, shortly after Musiala had scored to effectively seal the game for Bayern.
Incident and Immediate Response
Moments after his goal, Musiala, who had come on as a second-half substitute, began to appear disoriented. Saibari noticed and rushed to help his new teammate. Both Saibari and Joshua Kimmich caught Musiala before he hit the ground and slowly lowered him to the pitch. Medics provided immediate treatment as teammates gathered around.
In a positive sign, a medic gave a thumbs up towards the bench. Musiala was then able to get up and walk off the pitch with the Bayern medical team, replaced by Bara Sapoko Ndiaye.
Debut for Saibari and Match Outcome
The friendly marked a dramatic debut for Saibari, who had just joined Bayern from PSV Eindhoven earlier in the summer after representing Morocco at the World Cup. Bayern won 3-1, with goals from Luis Diaz, Nathaniel Brown, and Musiala, the latter assisted by Saibari.
Speaking after the match, Bayern sporting director Max Eberl confirmed Musiala's condition: "The most important thing, he's doing well!"
Other Injury Concerns
Bayern also faced two other injury worries during the game. Full-back Konrad Laimer was forced off after just 10 minutes, and centre-back Min-jae Kim was replaced during the second-half hydration break.
On Laimer, Eberl said: "Konny took a hit relatively early on, and his foot swelled up pretty quickly as well. That's why he was taken off as a precaution. It was already the case that he couldn't run anymore; he had to be supported. That was visible. He wasn't running smoothly at all. How long it will take, I really can't say today."
Bayern Munich are next in action on Saturday against Borussia Dortmund in the German Super Cup final, with their Bundesliga opener scheduled for Friday, 28 August against VfB Stuttgart.
