Fares Ghedjemis has revealed why a big money move to Celtic or Rangers fell through, admitting he was won over by Frosinone's ambitious plans. The Algeria international, who scored 15 goals last season to help his side return to Serie A, was targeted by both Old Firm clubs during the summer, along with Ligue 1 leaders Monaco.
Transfer interest and new contract
Reports in Italy claimed Frosinone had rejected bids in the region of £8million for the winger, who allegedly missed his team's first three matches of the season in an attempt to force a move. Last week, Ghedjemis' agent confirmed that offers from Celtic, Rangers and Monaco were on the table.
The 24-year-old has now committed his future to Frosinone by signing a new four-year contract that runs until 2030.
Player's explanation
Speaking to Italian media ahead of Friday's clash with Sassuolo, Ghedjemis said: "The summer transfer window? It's over. I had my own ambition, but I spoke to the club, and they presented me with their new ambition of becoming a major club. I'm happy to have stayed and signed a new contract. Now I want to do well."
He also praised his manager, Massimiliano Alvini, saying: "The differences with Serie B? I arrived three years ago as a young player from the French Serie C, while now I'm more mature. There's a big difference in intensity: you have to make the right choices and there's less room for error. I like this style of football better.
Manager praise and ambitions
"Alvini? He's a great coach, he wants the best for all the players and wants to help them grow. He has a winning spirit, he gives love to everyone and I like that. He wants to make me improve. Would I sign to finish the season with 10 goals? No, ten goals is a great achievement, but I don't want to limit myself. I want to do my best."
