Surrey completed a dominant performance against Hampshire on the fourth day of their County Championship match at the Oval, winning by an innings and 56 runs. Resuming on 72 for 2, Hampshire's hopes of saving the match were quickly dashed as Surrey's bowlers tore through the batting lineup.
Bowling attack shines
Surrey's seam attack, led by Kemar Roach and Jordan Clark, exploited helpful conditions to dismiss Hampshire for 187 in their second innings. Roach finished with figures of 4 for 41, while Clark claimed 3 for 38. Spinner Will Jacks also chipped in with two wickets.
Hampshire's resistance was brief, with only James Vince (42) and Keith Barker (35) offering any real fight. The visitors lost their last five wickets for just 38 runs, collapsing from 149 for 5 to 187 all out.
Surrey's first-innings dominance
The victory was set up by Surrey's commanding first-innings total of 481 for 8 declared, built around centuries from Rory Burns (112) and Ben Foakes (104*). Hampshire had been bowled out for 238 in their first innings, with Roach taking five wickets.
The win consolidates Surrey's position at the top of the County Championship table, while Hampshire remain in mid-table. Surrey captain Rory Burns praised his team's performance, highlighting the bowling unit's discipline and the batsmen's application.
This result extends Surrey's unbeaten run at the Oval to nine matches, a testament to their strength on home soil. The team will look to build on this momentum in their next fixture against Lancashire.
