England paceman Ollie Robinson has been bowling to Australia's batters, including stand-in captain Steve Smith, in nets ahead of the Ashes series. The 31-year-old, who has signed a short-term deal with Sydney University, has been putting Smith and opener Sam Konstas through their paces at New South Wales Blues.
Robinson's presence in Australia means he is well placed to be called up as a bowling reinforcement during what is expected to be a gruelling tour. The Sussex seamer courted controversy during the 2023 home Ashes when he directed an expletive-laden send-off at Australia opener Usman Khawaja after dismissing him.
Sydney University announced Robinson's arrival on Instagram earlier this week, stating: 'SUCC is pleased to announce England international Ollie Robinson will be joining the club this season. Ollie has represented England in 20 Tests, taking 79 wickets. In addition to 112 First Class games with 474 wickets at an average of 21.59. We’re delighted to have Ollie at the club and can’t wait to see what he can produce this season.'
