Former England cricketer Andrew 'Freddie' Flintoff is back on television with a new four-part BBC documentary series. The show follows Flintoff as he expands his cricket mentoring project across the north-west of England, aiming to establish teams in challenging communities.
In the series, Flintoff visits a pupil referral unit in Liverpool, where he faces a classroom of disengaged students who are unfamiliar with him and the sport of cricket. Despite the initial resistance, the programme highlights Flintoff's determination to connect with young people through sport.
The documentary revisits the format of Flintoff's previous series, which originally aired from Thornhill Community Academy a decade ago. One participant from the original cohort, Hemi, expresses confidence in Flintoff's ability, stating: 'It's Fred. He can do anything.'
The series airs as part of BBC's evening schedule, offering a blend of sport and personal development. Flintoff's return to television comes after a period away from the public eye, following a serious car accident in 2022.
