Klopp agrees to discuss Germany job after Nagelsmann quits

The German Football Association (DFB) have confirmed they will enter into discussions with Jurgen Klopp following manager Julian Nagelsmann's resignation just four days after the nation's stunning World Cup exit. Nagelsmann's time in charge came to an abrupt end in the wake of Monday's penalty shootout defeat to Paraguay, as Germany crashed out before the round of 16.

Klopp signals willingness

Klopp, 59, has already indicated his desire to take the reins, the DFB confirmed in an official statement. "Regarding the appointment of a new coach, the DFB leadership will now seek talks with Jurgen Klopp," they said. "He has already signalled his general willingness to take on the position."

Nagelsmann's departure

Julian Nagelsmann resigned as Germany manager on Friday, just days after the team's World Cup elimination. Germany lost to Paraguay on penalties in the round of 16, a result that led to widespread criticism and ultimately Nagelsmann's decision to step down.

The DFB's statement added that they are now focused on appointing a successor, with Klopp as the primary target. Klopp has been without a club since leaving Liverpool at the end of the 2023-24 season and has been linked with several national team roles.
