City Hall has awarded £625,000 to Pride in London to fund the capital's Pride celebrations for the next five years. The organisation was selected by a panel of representatives from LGBT+ communities following an open tender process.
The funding will support the main parade, events in Trafalgar Square, and community awards. Plans include creating a community council, an anti-racism plan, and a stage dedicated to the trans community.
London mayor Sadiq Khan said he was 'looking forward' to seeing the results of the group's 'ambitious plans'. He added: 'London is a beacon of inclusiveness around the world, and that is in part due to the powerful impact that the Pride march of solidarity and celebration has had on our society over the last five decades.'
Pride in London, a non-profit run by over 150 volunteers, has organised previous Pride events. The 2022 parade marked the 50th anniversary, with over a million people attending events across the city.
Christopher Joell-Deshields, executive director of Pride in London, said the team looked forward to engaging with LGBT+ communities to 'build better' and amplify issues. The date for the 2023 event will be announced in the coming weeks.
