Bruno Fernandes has decided to remain at Manchester United despite interest from Galatasaray, who have offered the midfielder a lucrative contract. The Turkish club have tabled a deal worth £17.1 million per year, according to The Athletic, and are reportedly prepared to submit a bid of £43 million plus add-ons to United. However, Fernandes has no plans to leave Old Trafford.
Contract situation and release clause
Fernandes, widely regarded as United's best player after breaking the Premier League assists record last season, has one year left on his current deal, with an option to extend for a further 12 months. A release clause in his contract, available to clubs outside England, was inserted following his last renewal in August 2024 but has since expired. United are now locked in contract talks with the 31-year-old about a new deal.
It is reported that Fernandes prefers to stay at United, where he serves as captain and is adored by the fanbase. The news comes just days before United begin their 2026/27 campaign against newly-promoted Hull City.
Pre-season form and upcoming fixtures
Manager Michael Carrick will be eager for an improved performance after United were beaten by Ruben Amorim's AC Milan in their last pre-season outing. Reacting to the result, Carrick told MUTV: "We're disappointed with today. We didn't play well today. There are reasons for that in some ways [but] we need to learn from it, we need to improve."
"Some of the boys were playing their first minutes. There's different reasons anyway. No excuses, we just didn't play very well today. But in the whole, we're ready for next week. A lot of the boys will be better for the minutes. We've done a lot of work on the training pitch ... I think the performances in the games have been pretty good. So, we're still in good spirits going into next week."
After the opener against Hull, United host Ipswich Town, then travel to Everton, followed by a home Manchester derby against City before a trip to Fulham ahead of the September international break.
