Sheridan Smith has revealed she had a secret fling with stuntman Alex Anlos while filming The Castaways. The 44-year-old British actress confessed to the romance after splitting from her fiancé, insurance broker Jamie Horn, in 2021.
Holiday Romance in Greece
Smith was filming for her 2023 Paramount+ drama in Greece, where she played Erin, a woman investigating her sister's disappearance in Fiji. Speaking to Alan Carr on his Life's a Beach podcast, she admitted to a holiday fling that she described as so 'romantic'.
She said: 'I did have a holiday romance actually. I was filming in Greece and the stuntman – I'm giving so much away – he taught me to swim, so he was holding me. And the next thing we did have a bit of a romance – it's an exclusive! It's so romantic and it's the heat and the bodies are all out!'
Behind-the-Scenes Bond
During filming, Smith shared a picture with Anlos on Instagram, writing: 'Hanging out after stunt rehearsals with @that_stunt_dude Greece. This guy has made me look bad ass.' She also posted another photo, captioning it: 'Love filming here in Greece. With my set bff @that_stunt_dude. I was a non-swimmer till we met!'
The Cilla star split from Jamie Horn in 2021 after three years together. The couple met on Tinder, moved into a £1.5 million Essex home, and got engaged in 2018. They share a son, Billy, born in May 2020.
New Thriller 'The Cage'
Smith has been praised for her role in the thriller The Cage, a five-part crime drama that aired on BBC One on April 26 and is available on iPlayer. The show follows Leanne and Matty, who rob the same casino, leading to a clash with gangsters and police.
The cast includes Michael Socha, Barry Sloane, Geraldine James, and others. Critics have lauded Smith's performance. The Telegraph's Anita Singh called her 'superb', while The Guardian's Lucy Mangan described the show as 'an astonishing, deeply moving state-of-the-nation thriller'.
However, The Times' Carol Midgley was less impressed, finding the casino setting off-putting but acknowledging the show's deeper themes about financial desperation.
