Meghan and Harry's Anniversary Cake Sparks Confusion Over Candles
Harry and Meghan's Cake Confuses Fans with 4 Candles

Meghan Markle has given fans a rare glimpse into her Montecito home in a series of videos posted to social media, as she and Prince Harry marked their eight-year wedding anniversary. The Duchess of Sussex took to her Instagram stories earlier today to share multiple clips of her and the Duke, along with their daughter Lilibet who was kept out of frame, celebrating the occasion with a decorated cake and the unique gift of a statue of two cuddling penguins.

Eagle-eyed fans spotted a few details in the background of the clips, giving an inside look into her daily life in California with her husband and two young children. Meghan shared a photo of her and Harry sharing a kiss in their kitchen as they posed with their anniversary cake, with what appears to be Archie and Lilibet’s busy daily schedules attached to a whiteboard in the background. Also in the background is a wooden sign that reads ‘Archie’s chickens’, placed behind a ceramic carton of fresh eggs, believed to be from the chickens Harry and Meghan keep in their garden. Archie and Lilibet seem to have made gifts for their parents’ anniversary, with two clay sculptures sitting in the foreground next to a card that was addressed to ‘Mama and Papa’ on the envelope.

Four Candles Cause Confusion

In the series of videos posted to her Instagram stories, Meghan filmed Harry as he walked into the kitchen of their home holding a cake - which was the same flavour as their wedding cake - featuring four lit candles, as Harry, Meghan and their daughter Lilibet sang “Happy anniversary to Mama and Papa” to the tune of ‘Happy Birthday’. Despite the sweet celebration, fans were left confused when they counted just four candles on the cake, despite it being an eight-year anniversary. Adorning the dessert with trendy long-stem candles, the couple looked to be in high spirits as they blew them out.

However, some took to social media to claim the number of candles made “no sense”. One person asked: “Eight years of marriage and only four candles?”, while another questioned: “Four candles? Married since 2018? The math ain’t mathing…” Others speculated that the four candles could be symbolic of the four family members - Harry, Meghan, their son Archie and daughter Lilibet. “For the four of them? ‘Mama and Papa’ and the two kids? Who knows?” one person suggested. Elsewhere, another thought the Prince may just have “not had enough candles”, adding: “It's the thought that counts. At least they are happy.”

Wedding Cake Maker Reflects

Meghan posted that the family indulged in a lemon and elderflower cake, which is the same flavour as their wedding cake back in 2018. And cake maker Claire Ptak of east London's Violet Cakes, who made the royal wedding cake, also reflected on the couple’s wedding day. Taking to social media, Claire posted a series of photos from the behind-the-scenes creation of the cake, along with a message of support, writing: “It's not every day you get asked to ‘do what you do’ and design a cake for a prince and princess with the entire world watching. It was discussed that we might use gilt to place the cakes on and I felt it was more personal so designed the cakes to fit the gilt platters used by generations. They were displayed in front of Elton John and his piano then lanced with Harry's sword. We had been invited into Buckingham Palace to bake the cakes safely away from paparazzi gathering outside our small bakery in East London. Thank you Meghan and Harry for trusting me and my team to make your wedding cake 8 years ago today!”
