London assembly officials are assessing whether to investigate Green Party leader Zack Polanski after he admitted potential failure to pay correct council tax on a houseboat in east London. The Greater London Authority (GLA) monitoring officer is considering a formal complaint regarding a possible breach of conduct standards.
The complaint, lodged by Labour chair Anna Turley, cites section 106 of the Local Government Finance Act 1992, which requires public office holders in arrears on council tax to declare this at meetings and prohibits them from voting on financial matters. Polanski's party described the situation as an 'unintentional mistake' and said he has taken steps to pay any tax owed.
Polanski's spokesperson stated he denies any wrongdoing and will cooperate fully with the official process. The GLA confirmed receipt of two complaints and said they are being considered under standard procedures, with no further comment while the process is ongoing.
