Shadow Foreign Secretary David Lammy has been hit with a £200 fine by the Electoral Commission after failing to declare a £10,000 campaign donation within the required timeframe.
The Labour MP, who represents Tottenham, received the donation from the GMB union in September 2022 but only declared it in December—three months after the legal deadline.
Lammy has since apologised, calling the delay an "administrative oversight" and confirming that the fine has been paid.
The Electoral Commission stated that while the late declaration was a breach of rules, there was no evidence of intentional wrongdoing. However, they emphasised the importance of transparency in political donations to maintain public trust.
This is not the first time Lammy has faced scrutiny over donations. In 2021, he was also fined for a similar late declaration involving a £2,500 contribution.
Political analysts suggest that while the fine is relatively minor, it could still be used by opponents to question Lammy's attention to detail, particularly as he holds a prominent shadow cabinet role.
