David Kendall, the prolific television writer, director, and producer best known for his work on Boy Meets World, Growing Pains, and Hannah Montana, has died at the age of 68. The news was announced on Saturday by the stars of the beloved 1990s sitcom, Danielle Fishel, Will Friedle, and Rider Strong, via the Instagram page of their podcast Pod Meets World. A photo of Kendall smiling accompanied the post. A cause of death has not yet been disclosed.
A Creative Force in Television
In their joint statement, the trio wrote: 'To say that David Kendall was instrumental in the creation of Boy Meets World would be an understatement. He directed, wrote and executive produced our show, but also helped mold some of TV's most memorable sitcoms, from Growing Pains to Hannah Montana.' Kendall joined Boy Meets World as an executive producer in its second season, remaining with the series through its seventh and final season in 2000. He also wrote an episode in 1994 and directed 13 episodes between 1995 and 1999.
Beyond Boy Meets World, Kendall played a pivotal role in shaping the early careers of stars such as Austin Butler, Zendaya, Miley Cyrus, and the Jonas Brothers. His first producing gig was on Growing Pains, where he served as co-executive producer and producer for seasons four through six. He also directed episodes of Melissa & Joey and served as creator, writer, and executive producer for that series.
Impact on Cast and Crew
Fishel, Friedle, and Strong expressed their devastation in the heartfelt post: 'We are devastated to lose such an important person in our lives, both professionally and personally. We all kept in touch with David over the past 30 years, and are honored that we were able to share his incredible personality with our Pod Meets World listeners. We have lost a vital piece of our family — but we ask that the next time you watch the show, especially Seasons 2 & 3 (when he served as Showrunner), you think of our beloved Kendall.' The trio concluded: 'We love you, David. Rest in peace. No notes.'
Fans and former colleagues also shared their condolences. Former production crew member Didi Destefano wrote: 'I was fortunate to have been in touch with him as recently as last month. He was a brave, wonderful gentleman and leaves a hole in our hearts.'

Born on October 2, 1957, Kendall began his show business career as writer and director of the 1983 comedy Luggage of the Gods!
