The latest Guardian Essential report indicates that One Nation's primary vote has plateaued, but Labor cannot afford to relax. The poll arrives at the halfway point of Anthony Albanese's second term as prime minister.
Guardian Australia political reporter Josh Butler discussed the findings with Guardian columnist and Essential executive director Peter Lewis. The poll also reveals that Opposition spokesperson Angus Taylor's approval rating has crashed.
Key Findings
One Nation's support appears to have stalled, offering little relief for Labor. Meanwhile, the government's overall health is assessed as good but fragile.
"The (spin) doctor is in: the Albanese government is in good health, but that could all vanish in an instant," said Peter Lewis.
The results suggest that while Labor may be in a relatively strong position, the political landscape remains volatile.
