Tyson Fury will make his boxing comeback against Arslanbek Makhmudov on 11 April in a heavyweight contest to be screened on Netflix. The 37-year-old announced his retirement a year ago after successive defeats to Oleksandr Usyk, but has been training in Thailand for his return to the ring. A venue has yet to be confirmed, though the fight will take place in the UK, marking Fury’s first bout on home soil since he beat Derek Chisora in 2022.
“Well it’s official I’m back doing what I love to do,” Fury wrote on Instagram. “I’ve brought the biggest network along with me. Netflix, this is going to be astronomical. Blessed by God.” He added: “Excited to be back. Heart’s always been and always will be in boxing. Someone go tell the king that the ace is back!”
Makhmudov, a 6ft 6in Canada-based fighter born in Russia, holds a 21-2 record and impressed in his most recent outing by dominating Britain’s Dave Allen. “I am thrilled about the opportunity,” he said. “I’m coming to deliver a war. Tyson Fury has been a big champion. I will be more ready than ever to leave with a massive W.”
Fury has 34 wins in 37 fights and has been world champion twice. He had been expected to build towards a long-awaited meeting with Anthony Joshua, but Joshua’s future is uncertain after a car crash in Nigeria in December killed two of his close friends and team members. Fury is open to a summer showdown with WBO champion Fabio Wardley and has outlined plans to fight three times this year. Usyk remains the only man to have beaten Fury, having twice become undisputed champion.
