The three-year-old daughter of a champion rodeo rider has died after a horse fell on her and her mother, according to reports. Oaklynn Domer, daughter of Women's Professional Rodeo Association world champion Kelsie Domer and her husband Ryan, died last Thursday in the accident at the family's home in Dublin, Texas.
A Facebook post by Rodeo Life said efforts were made to save Oaklynn, but they were unsuccessful. It remains unclear whether Kelsie was injured in the incident, which reportedly happened in front of her.
An obituary for Oaklynn said she “packed a lot in her short time with us”, travelling the rodeo circuit across the US and joining her parents in the practice pen. It noted her love of horses and “yodeos”, adding: “She did not know a stranger and lit up the room the minute she made her grand entrance.” Oaklynn is survived by her parents, two sets of grandparents and three great-grandparents.
Horse and dog health company Simply Equine & K9, for which Kelsie has worked for four years, paid tribute on Facebook, saying: “Our hearts are shattered beyond words. Sweet Oaklynn gained her angel wings far too soon.” The Rope Like A Girl foundation is accepting donations to help the family with expenses, and said the “outpouring of support” has been “unprecedented”.
