Donald Trump has sparked concern for his wife, Melania, after making a comment about marriage during an Alaska rally that has been branded "disgusting" by viewers. The remark came as he addressed a crowd in Wasilla, where he also issued a four-word command to his blonde aide.
What Trump said about marriage
A clip shared by Aaron Rupar on X shows Trump telling the audience: "Stay with your wife. It's much less expensive." The comment drew immediate criticism, with one viewer claiming Trump is a "disgusting influence on our children."
In an extended version of the speech, Trump recounted a conversation with a police officer who had previously spoken to him and whom he "wanted to thank." According to Trump, the officer said he'd "lost a lot of money" because he's "not good at it," but his 401(k) is now "up" thanks to the President.
Viewers react to the remarks
Trump said the man told him: "She now views me as a financial genius. She viewed me as a loser my whole life, and now she views me as a brilliant financial mind." Trump then asked if he planned to stay with his wife, and the man reportedly replied: "I'm thinking about it." It was then that Trump advised him to stay as it's "much less expensive."
Though the joke drew some laughs, viewers were not impressed. One person said: "This man is a disgusting influence on our children. Forget being Presidential, Trump's speeches are laced with profanity, weird sexual remarks, bathroom humor and nastiness. What parent would want their kids to hear this stuff?"
Another added: "Even marriage is just an emotionless financial transaction to him." A third replied: "At times, you do have to admire his candor! I'm laughing. I bet Melania is not. MAGAs 'perfect couple' bubble just burst. It's just too expensive to split." A fourth commented: "He should know." One other person appeared confused, writing: "Are Trump and Melania separated?"
The backlash follows an ex-aide's claim that Melania can never divorce Donald for one chilling reason.
