Donald Trump has threatened to temporarily shelve the nomination of Todd Blanche as US attorney general amid resistance from Republican senators. Blanche, currently serving as acting attorney general, faces opposition from Senators John Cornyn and Thom Tillis.
Key Republican opposition
Cornyn told reporters he would not support Blanche's nomination without written confirmation that a previously planned $1.8bn slush fund for the president's allies was dead. Blanche needs the vote of every Republican on the Senate judiciary committee to advance his nomination permanently.
Trump's Truth Social post
Writing on Truth Social, Trump praised Blanche as "a STAR" but criticized Cornyn and Tillis, whom he said he refused to endorse. Trump stated he had no objection to temporarily withdrawing Blanche's name and putting him back after Cornyn and Tillis are out of office.
