Aides reportedly rushed the press out of the Oval Office on Wednesday after Donald Trump's rambling remarks raised fears that "something was wrong." The US President had been speaking to reporters about the war in Iran, his recent meeting with Volodymyr Zelensky and his ambition to "end the war" in Ukraine, when he turned to a bizarre comparison between grass and human beings.
Trump said: "Grass is like human beings. Grass is a life also. And we're changing. We're raking, cleaning and changing all of the parks. We don't have people." He added: "We don't have the tents anymore. We don't have all the barbed wire up. We don't have the wire up."
Aides usher reporters out
Footage shows Trump abruptly thanking those in attendance, signalling the end of the meeting, before two aides positioned themselves directly in front of the cameras. As the camera pulled back, two female staff members could be seen frantically motioning for the press to leave. Journalists hastily departed while Trump and his associates were visible in the background, smiling.
Political commentator David Pakman described the speech as a "strange chapter in the novel that is this insane presidency." Speaking on his YouTube channel, The David Pakman Show, he said: "They suddenly realised something was wrong with Donald Trump in the Oval Office, and they rushed the press out."
Dulles Airport and Star Wars
Before the meeting's abrupt ending, Trump also shifted his attention to border security, windmills and his plans to transform Dulles Airport in Virginia. He said: "Within a few years, it will be rated the best airport in the country. So it's going to be so efficient. Right now, it's totally inefficient between the trams and the Star Wars thing that they go up." He added: "The Star Wars and elevated buses, and nobody knows what's going on. It's a real mess."
