Man Fined €500 for Intentional Flatulence Near Police in Vienna

A man in Vienna has been fined €500 (£447) for deliberately breaking wind loudly in front of police officers, a penalty the city's police force has defended as necessary.

According to the Österreich newspaper, the incident occurred on 5 June when the man was fined for offending public decency. Police wrote on Twitter that 'of course no one is reported for accidentally letting one go'.

They described the man's behaviour as provocative and uncooperative during an earlier encounter with officers. He reportedly got up from a park bench, looked at the officers, and 'let go a massive intestinal wind apparently with full intent'.
