Jenrick's 'Death Tax' Attack
Robert Jenrick, standing in for the absent Reform UK leadership, gave a speech Thursday attacking a potential 'death tax' proposed by Andy Burnham. The policy does not yet exist, but Jenrick claimed it would only affect the least well-off while the rich would avoid it. 'That's what offshore accounts are for,' he said.
GB News Questions Reform's Approach
After the speech, a GB News journalist questioned why Jenrick had not joined cross-party talks on social care, calling Reform's scare tactics 'unserious.' Jenrick appeared rattled, having previously counted on GB News's support.
Other media outlets largely ignored the speech, instead focusing on a Guardian story about Reform donor George Cottrell transferring £2m to his mother. Jenrick became defensive when asked about opaque financial dealings involving crypto and offshore accounts.
The episode highlights Reform UK's declining poll numbers and internal chaos, with leader Nigel Farage absent and other senior figures on retreats. Few other media organisations could be bothered to engage with what was described as 'half-arsed grandstanding.'
