Daily Star readers have been sharing their thoughts on a range of topics, from mobile phone alerts about fire risks to government spending on Ukraine and the state of the prison system. Here's what they had to say.
Fire warnings spark debate
John Challenger questioned the need for emergency alerts about not starting fires, arguing that people should take personal responsibility. He said: "Who needs to be told that when everything is tinder dry and rain is a distant memory lighting a bloody fire may be less than prudent." He also noted that each alert costs taxpayers money.
Carole Samuel described her experience of receiving the alert after a brief rain shower, saying she heard a strange noise and then her phone made a loud noise, which turned out to be the fire warning.
TP from Wallasey called for a ban on BBQs in council estates, saying that during the heatwave, smoke from BBQs fills houses with smoke and makes it impossible to open windows for fresh air.
Ukraine spending questioned
Jimbo questioned why billions are being spent on drones for Ukraine, suggesting that EU countries should be doing more rather than making the UK a bigger target.
Prison reform criticism
Jessica Goetia Brooking from Havant criticised the Conservative Party for complaining about changes to the prisoner early release scheme. She pointed out that when Labour came to power in July 2024, prisons were 99 per cent full, and blamed the Conservatives for closing 23 prisons, cutting 12,500 prison places, sacking thousands of prison officers, releasing thousands of prisoners early, and privatising the probation service.
Phone theft and Arsenal tactics
Sam Saunders from Walsall commented on stolen phones, saying that people who walk around with their phones on show are asking for trouble. He advised: "Nothing is that important that it cant wait while u get it out of ur pocket or bag."
The Man City Bluecoats asked whether the FA was going to put an end to Arsenal's 'dirty tricks', such as diving, holding shirts, and moaning at refs. Brian Linford from Pontefract expressed sadness that the World Cup terrestrial viewing is over, but noted that a satellite recording of the FA Community Shield game between Arsenal and Man City was available.
