A 60-year-old man has tragically lost his life after being attacked by his own XL Bully dog in a horrifying incident that has reignited debates about dangerous breeds in the UK.
Emergency services rushed to a home in Hornchurch, East London, late on Monday night following reports of a vicious dog attack. Despite paramedics' best efforts, the victim succumbed to his injuries at the scene.
Exempt from the Ban
Police confirmed the dog involved was an XL Bully - the same breed recently banned in England and Wales under the Dangerous Dogs Act. However, this particular animal had been legally exempted from the prohibition.
"The dog was lawfully registered under the exemption scheme," a Metropolitan Police spokesperson stated. "Officers attended and the dog was destroyed to ensure public safety."
