Two British holidaymakers were brutally beaten and left unconscious in an unprovoked attack in the Spanish resort of Magaluf, prompting a police search for additional suspects.
Attack Details
The incident occurred in the early hours of Sunday, May 24, near a nightclub on the popular party strip in Magaluf, Mallorca. The victims, aged 30 and 31, suffered serious injuries that rendered them unconscious. Authorities have not yet disclosed their genders or current condition.
Arrests Made
Spanish police, the Civil Guard, launched an investigation immediately after the assault. On Tuesday, they arrested two 19-year-old individuals of Swiss origin at a holiday home in Calvià. Both have been placed at the disposal of the judicial authority in Palma courts, accused of causing serious injuries.
However, the investigation remains open as police search for at least two other perpetrators who are still at large. The suspects are believed to have been involved in the attack alongside the arrested pair.
Impact on Magaluf's Reputation
Magaluf, known for its vibrant nightlife and as a party destination for British tourists, has been working to shed its image of excessive drinking and anti-social behaviour. In recent years, the resort has seen a shift towards a more family-friendly atmosphere. This incident, however, threatens to undermine those efforts and reignite concerns about safety.
Police Appeal
The Civil Guard continues to investigate and urges anyone with information to come forward. The attack has shocked the local community and raised questions about security in the area during the holiday season.
This is a developing story. Further updates will be provided as more details emerge.
