Couple 'abandon son, 10, at Barcelona airport after passport expiry'

Parents have been accused of abandoning their 10-year-old son at Barcelona's El Prat airport after discovering his passport had expired, according to a worker at the terminal.

The couple allegedly left the boy behind on Wednesday so they could board their flight on time. The child was unable to travel because his passport was no longer valid and he did not have a visa.

An air traffic coordinator, identified only as Lilian, said the parents arranged for a relative to collect the boy but then boarded the plane. Airport staff later found the child alone and alerted police.

Lilian, who posted a video about the incident that has been viewed more than 300,000 times, said the plane had to return to the stand and the pilot asked passengers if anyone had left a child in the terminal. The couple were eventually found and taken to the airport police station, though it is unclear if they were arrested.

'I'm amazed to think how parents could possibly leave their ten-year-old son at the terminal because he can't travel due to documentation issues,' Lilian said. The claims have not been independently verified, and Metro has contacted Barcelona El Prat Airport and the police for comment.
