A beloved British grandfather has tragically died following a moped crash while on a family holiday in Greece. Craig Bloomer, 54, from Wolverhampton, had been staying on the island of Corfu with his two daughters, their partners and children when the incident occurred on July 26.
Mr Bloomer lost control of the moped he was riding and crashed near the village of Agios Mattheos. He was rushed to hospital but was pronounced dead by doctors. His family said the holiday was the happiest they had seen him since his wife Jane died from cancer two years ago.
His eldest daughter, Rebecca, 32, said: “Our dad's loss has left a massive hole in our lives.” The family, which also included his youngest daughter Danni Perks, 27, had to cut their holiday short and returned to the UK several days earlier than planned on July 29.
Craig ran The Cafe in the Low Hill area of Wolverhampton alongside his two daughters. Paying tribute, Rebecca described him as a “proper family man” who enjoyed motorbikes, old cars, going to the pub, snooker and drawing. She added that tributes had flooded in from people who knew him, saying he was “lovely” and “a character”.
His body was flown back to England on August 6, allowing the family to begin organising his funeral. A GoFundMe page has been set up to help with costs following his unexpected death, and has so far raised more than £3,000.
