Chaos After ICE Shooting Revealed in 911 Calls

Newly released incident reports and 911 transcripts have shed light on the chaotic aftermath of a fatal shooting by an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agent in Minneapolis last week. Renee Good, 37, was shot and killed on 7 January after an encounter with federal officers.

According to a Minneapolis fire department report obtained by the Guardian, paramedics arrived at the scene at approximately 9.42am and found Good unresponsive in the driver's seat of her car, with blood on her face and torso. She was not breathing and had an inconsistent pulse. Medics identified two apparent gunshot wounds to the right side of her chest, one to her left forearm, and a possible gunshot wound to the left side of her head. Blood was discharging from her left ear.

Responders moved Good down the block to create a more workable scene and to separate her from an escalating situation involving law enforcement and bystanders. Paramedics performed chest compressions and applied a tourniquet to her left arm before transporting her to a hospital, where resuscitative efforts were discontinued at approximately 10.30am.

Transcripts of 911 calls reveal the panic and confusion at the scene. One caller reported that ICE agents had shot a woman point-blank in her car, stating, 'She's fuckin' dead. They fuckin' shot her.' Another caller said they saw an ICE officer fire two shots through the windshield, hitting the driver, who then crashed into a parked vehicle. A separate call came from someone requesting assistance on behalf of federal officers, citing 'agitators on scene' and shots fired.

Police communications further detail the tense atmosphere. At 9.47am, a message requested crowd control and area blockage. Three minutes later, another stated the crowd needed to be moved back, followed by 'Crowd getting hostile.' By 10.04am, the agent who fired was no longer on the scene and had been transported to a federal building. At 10.20am, the crowd was described as 'getting more agitated.'
