British Woman Found Dead Outside Burning Spanish Home, Husband Rescued

A British woman has been found dead outside her burning home in Spain, while her husband was rescued from a balcony. The incident occurred at a farmhouse near Almeria in the town of Antas on February 7, with emergency services arriving at around 8:25 am.

The 66-year-old woman's body was discovered outside the property, opposite the home. Her husband, aged 76, was trapped on a balcony covered with bars and screaming for help as the fire raged. Rescuers removed the railings with a crowbar and brought him to safety. He was taken to hospital in critical condition due to heavy smoke inhalation.

Spanish police confirmed the victim was British but have not released her name. Firefighters stated that her death was not related to the blaze, as she did not suffer smoke inhalation and her injuries were inconsistent with those from a fire. An investigation has been launched, with authorities awaiting autopsy results to determine the cause of death.

Local reports indicate that the couple's son and his girlfriend were at the scene when police arrived. It remains unclear whether they were present when the fire started or arrived later. Mayor Pedro Ridao said officials are waiting for the autopsy report to establish the woman's cause of death.
