Pep Guardiola has reportedly told friends that he wants to manage the England national team in the future, just days after his departure from Manchester City was confirmed. The Catalan coach ended a decade-long spell at the Etihad Stadium, during which he won 20 trophies, including six Premier League titles and the Champions League.
According to the Mail, Guardiola will not return to club management anytime soon, but has expressed a desire to take charge of the Three Lions. The report notes that while Guardiola is 'prone to changing his mind', he is not pursuing a new position in domestic football. It has previously been suggested that he wants to guide a nation to World Cup success, having achieved everything at club level.
However, Guardiola may have to wait for the England job, as Thomas Tuchel recently signed a contract extension with the Football Association. Tuchel, who led England to the 2026 World Cup, will now remain in charge until the summer of 2028. The German head coach is set to lead England at his first major tournament this summer in the United States, Mexico and Canada.
Guardiola bid an emotional farewell to Manchester City earlier this month. His successor has not yet been announced, but former assistant Enzo Maresca is the frontrunner. Guardiola said of his replacement: 'When the club tell me who it is, of course I will call him. I will tell him, "Be yourself and the club will support you unconditionally."'
