Trump Directs Iran Strikes from Mar-a-Lago Amid Charity Gala

President Donald Trump oversaw the launch of extensive U.S. military airstrikes against Iran from an improvised Situation Room within his Mar-a-Lago estate in Palm Beach, Florida. This critical national security operation unfolded in the early hours of Saturday morning, coinciding with a black-tie charity event taking place elsewhere on the sprawling property.

While guests enjoyed cocktails and festivities, Trump monitored Operation Epic Fury from a secure area curtained off from public view. He was accompanied by key members of his Cabinet, including Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff General Dan Caine, CIA Director John Ratcliffe, and White House Chief of Staff Susie Wiles.

According to CNN reports, a brief security concern emerged when Wiles' smartwatch was feared to potentially reveal the group's precise location. Despite the gravity of the military operation, Trump reportedly took moments to address his gala guests, stating, "Have a good time, everybody. God bless the U.S.A. I gotta go to work." without mentioning the ongoing strikes.

Parallel Command in Washington

Meanwhile, in Washington D.C., Vice President JD Vance chaired an emergency meeting of Cabinet secretaries in the official White House Situation Room. Among those present was Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard, who, like Vance, has previously criticised American intervention in Iran. Both have maintained conspicuous silence on social media since the strikes began, posting only official communications.

Far-right Trump supporter Laura Loomer described this restrained communication as "telling," while Benjamin Friedman, policy director at Defense Priorities think tank, noted to The Daily Telegraph that "It will be difficult for Vance to say he didn't agree with this" in future, particularly if he pursues a presidential bid in 2028.

Security Concerns at Private Estate

The use of Mar-a-Lago for sensitive military operations has consistently raised concerns among national security professionals. CNN reports indicate anxiety about bringing paying club members into proximity with classified intelligence material. Although the Secret Service screens guests, they cannot control access to the commercial club premises.

This weekend's operation followed a security incident just seven days earlier, when Secret Service agents shot and killed a man attempting to enter the estate. Trump has previously monitored strikes on Syria, Yemen, Nigeria, the assassination of Iranian general Qasem Soleimani in 2020, and the Venezuelan operation earlier this year from the same location.

Public Communication and Aftermath

Following the strikes, which sent smoke plumes over Tehran and other Iranian cities, Trump released two social media videos. The first announced the operation, while the second confirmed the death of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and three U.S. soldier casualties. Democrats criticised Trump's perceived casual attitude toward the American losses.

Unusually, the president did not deliver a live television address or host a news conference to reassure the public, drawing additional criticism. The White House has offered no official explanation for Vice President Vance's absence from Florida, though separating the president and vice president during heightened tensions is standard security protocol.
