Olly Murs has led a wave of emotional tributes to Caroline Flack on the sixth anniversary of her tragic death. The former Love Island presenter took her own life in 2020 at the age of 40, leaving the entertainment world in mourning.
Heartfelt Social Media Posts from Close Friends
On the day after Valentine's Day, Olly Murs posted a nostalgic photograph capturing a moment of laughter with Caroline Flack during their time hosting The X Factor together in 2015. The image showed the pair with arms around each other during filming downtime in Birmingham from their first meeting in 2011.
"Six years and it still feels strange you're not here," wrote Murs in his poignant caption. "This photo was the first time we met in Birmingham 2011 and after about five minutes in a room we just clicked straight away! We walked out already laughing and giggling together. I miss those moments caz x thinking of ya family today."
Comedian Leigh Francis also shared a touching remembrance, posting a photo of Flack with the message: "Bless little Flack. Remember her always laughing x" on the sad anniversary.
Documentary Reveals New Insights into Final Months
A two-part Disney documentary released last year provided fresh perspective on Caroline Flack's emotional state during her final months. Caroline Flack: Search For The Truth featured previously unseen voice notes and text messages that shed light on the television presenter's increasing distress.
The documentary revealed texts from Flack to friends that read: "I don't see any way out of this" and "I'm having a big panic attack." In one particularly poignant voice note, Flack contemplated: "I think I should make a documentary about all of this, what do you think?"
Family's Pursuit of Justice and Police Apology
Caroline Flack's mother Christine featured prominently in the documentary, accusing police and prosecutors of pursuing her daughter aggressively due to her celebrity status. "As a parent, we think our children are always going to be there," Christine stated emotionally. "I want justice for my daughter."
The documentary examined the circumstances surrounding Flack's death, which occurred after she learned prosecutors would proceed with an assault charge against her. Caroline had been accused of assaulting her boyfriend Lewis Burton following an argument at her flat in 2019.
Coroner Mary Hassell concluded that Flack killed herself because she knew she was being prosecuted and could not face the intense press coverage that would follow. In 2023, the Metropolitan Police issued an apology to Flack's family for failing to maintain proper records explaining why they charged her with assault rather than following the Crown Prosecution Service's initial recommendation of a caution.
The tragic anniversary serves as a reminder of the ongoing impact of Flack's death on her friends, family, and fans across the entertainment industry.
