Jamie Laing Dons Lingerie for Greg James' Comic Relief Tandem Cycle Challenge
Jamie Laing caused a stir on Wednesday by sporting lingerie and suspenders to support his Radio 1 colleague Greg James during a gruelling Comic Relief cycle challenge. The former Made In Chelsea star, 37, hopped on the back of a tandem bicycle in the skimpy outfit, joining Greg for a segment of his 1000km ride over eight days.
A Year After Wedding Dress Support
This playful gesture comes exactly one year after Jamie completed his own Comic Relief challenge, running five ultra-marathons in five consecutive days. During that endurance feat, Greg James supported him by wearing an ivory wedding gown to run alongside him. Greg had promised to don the dress if donations exceeded £450,000, a target fans smashed with ease.
The wedding dress was also a tribute to Greg's now wife Bella, who proposed to him ahead of his own Gregathlon challenge for Sport Relief back in 2018. Reflecting on that moment, Greg described it as feeling "like a fever dream," praising Jamie's running pace and endurance.
Hilarious Moments and Social Media Fun
During their tandem ride this week, Jamie and Greg filmed hilarious dancing videos for social media, bringing smiles amid the physical strain. Jamie later expressed his enthusiasm, saying, "The whole thing was awesome in every way. I loved every second of it, and I loved being in lingerie. I might wear it again!"
Greg added, "He looked fantastic. Although it took some time to get used to! Fair play for turning up and dressing up like that. It put a real smile on my face in what has been a really tough day in the saddle."
Royal Surprise and Emotional Backstory
Greg's challenge has seen several surprises along the route, including a visit from Prince William earlier this week. The Prince of Wales joined Greg on the tandem for 30 minutes through the South Yorkshire countryside, revealing at that point that £1 million had been raised. The total has since soared to over £2.2 million.
In a touching moment, Greg called his mother Rosemary to share news of the royal encounter, joking that she should tell his father Alan he "didn't kill the future King." This call came amid emotional challenges for Greg, as his father is currently hospitalised recovering from a stroke suffered during a planned heart operation just one week before the cycle began.
Overcoming Personal Struggles
Greg has been open about masking his emotions during the physically demanding challenge. "I actually want to just sit in a room and cry for a bit," he admitted on Radio 1. "I really miss my Dad, and I really miss my Mum, and I really wanted to be with them this week. But I wanted to be here even more."
He credited the overwhelming public support and donations with helping him push through both physical exhaustion and personal worry. The challenge has been cheered on by numerous Radio 1 colleagues including Vernon Kay, Sara Cox, Jo Whiley and Scott Mills.
Continuing a Tradition of Support
The lingerie stunt continues a tradition of mutual support between the two broadcasters for Comic Relief causes. Jamie described Greg as "a beacon that is doing it all," while emphasising that "the radio 1 listeners and public who are the real superheroes because they are the ones donating to raise this incredible amount of money."
As Greg continues his eight-day tandem cycle across the country, both the humorous moments and emotional resilience have captured public attention, driving donations for Comic Relief's charitable work.
