Search for Missing UK Diplomat Richard Morris Scaled Back

Police have scaled back the search for Richard Morris, a British diplomat who has been missing for 28 days after going for a run in Hampshire. The 52-year-old father of three was last seen jogging in Alton on the morning of 6 May.

Mr Morris served as UK ambassador to Nepal for four years until 2019 and was recently appointed British High Commissioner to Fiji. Hampshire Constabulary said it had searched more than nine square kilometres of land, including Alice Holt Forest, where he is known to enjoy running.

Officers also inspected two kilometres of the River Wey, reviewed CCTV footage and conducted house-to-house inquiries. Chief Inspector Alex Reading stated: 'We continue to be very concerned for his welfare. I would however like to reassure the community that there is no evidence of foul play.'

Mr Morris, originally from Worcestershire, was last seen by a member of the public at about 10:30 BST on Isington Road, near his home in Bentley. He is white with a beard and greying hair, has a birthmark on his face, and was wearing a blue top, black shorts and blue trainers.

The Foreign Office previously described him as a 'much-valued and well-liked colleague'. The investigation into his disappearance remains ongoing, with any new lines of inquiry to be thoroughly investigated.
