Coleen Rooney Explains Decision to Decline Celebrity Traitors Invitation
Coleen Rooney has publicly disclosed her reasons for rejecting an offer to participate in the BBC's Celebrity Traitors. The 39-year-old television personality confirmed that show producers approached her for the upcoming celebrity spin-off edition but she ultimately decided against joining the lineup.
Authenticity Concerns Behind the Decision
In an interview with The Times, Rooney expressed her admiration for the program while explaining her reservations. "I love watching Celebrity Traitors," she stated. "But I don't know whether I could be that fake." She elaborated on her discomfort with the show's central premise of deception, saying, "If I was a traitor and I was lying to them, in my head I'd be thinking, 'Oh, I'd hate people to think that's what I was like in real life, just like scamming people'."
The popular reality competition, hosted by Claudia Winkleman, previously aired an all-stars edition last year where comedian Alan Carr emerged victorious, securing £87,500 for Neuroblastoma UK charity. With a second celebrity version in development, producers have been actively recruiting participants.
Alternative Television Projects
While declining the Traitors opportunity, Rooney has welcomed film crews into her £20 million Cheshire residence for a forthcoming Disney documentary. This follows her successful "The Real Wagatha" series on streaming platforms, with the new reality program reportedly valued at £10 million.
During her Sunday Times interview, Rooney offered insights into her domestic life with husband Wayne Rooney, humorously describing herself as the household "boss" who occasionally needs to direct her "laid-back" spouse. "I like everything in order, he's a bit more laid-back," she explained. When questioned about whether she bosses him around, she responded, "He would probably say that, but I would say he needs telling sometimes."
Changing Family Dynamics
Wayne Rooney's career transition from football management to punditry has significantly altered their family routine. Following managerial roles at Derby County, Birmingham City, DC United, and Plymouth Argyle that required extensive travel, he now maintains an £800,000 two-year contract with the BBC, regularly appearing on Match of the Day and participating in former professionals' podcasts.
Coleen acknowledged this increased togetherness brings mixed emotions, quipping, "In some ways it's good, in some ways it's annoying, because we've never had that much time together." The couple shares four sons: Kai (16), Klay (12), Kit (10), and Cass (8), with the two eldest currently registered with Manchester United's youth academy.
Celebrity Traitors Casting Speculation
Meanwhile, speculation continues regarding potential participants for the next Celebrity Traitors series. Recent reports indicate presenter Angela Scanlon, 42, is in discussions with producers following her successful appearances on Celebrity Apprentice and Strictly Come Dancing. Scanlon, who recently substituted for Cat Deeley on This Morning, has openly admitted being "obsessed to an unhealthy degree" with the civilian version's fourth season.
A source informed The Sun, "Angela's turn on Strictly, and on Celebrity Apprentice earlier this year, went down a storm. The BBC are big fans of hers and are keen to secure her as one of their key talents. Celebrity Traitors would be the perfect fit for Angela. She's clever, mischievous and isn't afraid of causing a stir."
Other rumored contenders include Steve Pemberton, Richard E Grant, Hugh Bonneville, Ruth Jones, David Mitchell, Alison Hammond, and Jamie Oliver. According to insiders, contract negotiations typically continue until shortly before production commences, with final agreements often signed in the days preceding the show's start.
