Charlie Puth has revealed that the distinctive split in his right eyebrow is not a fashion statement but a scar from a near-fatal dog attack when he was two years old. The 34-year-old singer, who is set to perform the national anthem at the 2026 Super Bowl, first shared the story in a 2017 YouTube interview.
Puth explained that the scar resulted from a black Labrador biting his face after he pulled its tail. He described the incident as “pretty scary” and said he “almost died.” The attack required plastic surgery, with Puth receiving 450 stitches. Despite his young age, he recalls going to court over the incident, which led to the dog being put down.
During a 2024 appearance on CBS Mornings, Puth joked that he sometimes lies and says he got the scar from a big fight. He admitted that while the scar bothered him growing up, he now feels “pretty cool” about it. Puth also warned children against getting into dogs' faces, noting that “they are still animals.”
Puth, a four-time Grammy-nominated artist, will perform “The Star-Spangled Banner” at the Super Bowl between the Seattle Seahawks and the New England Patriots. He shared that his arrangement is key to making the song his own, and he hopes to inspire audiences with his performance.
