Big Brother's Caroline Monk Claims Reality TV Appearance Has Rendered Her 'Unemployable'
Caroline Monk, a contestant from the twenty-second series of Big Brother, has publicly declared that her participation in the reality television programme has made her effectively 'unemployable'. The fifty-six-year-old public relations executive, who entered the famous house last October, took to Instagram to express her profound anxieties regarding her inability to secure desirable employment following her stint on the show.
Struggling to Secure Desired Roles
Monk, who resides in Wakefield and was once engaged to television presenter Matthew Wright, insists she possesses the perfect skillset for a career in broadcasting. She envisions herself as an ideal television or radio presenter and believes she would excel at hosting a podcast. However, she laments that the only job offers she currently receives are for positions she does not want.
'So, am I unemployable? Seems like it,' Monk stated candidly. 'Because the only jobs where I live now in Wakefield that I could do or they want me is to be a prison officer. Wakefield's got one of the most evil prisons called the monster mansion with all the bad people in, or I might go for a bingo caller - which is only £12 an hour. And it's only 12 hours a week, so that's not going to get the baby bathed is it.'
Making Ends Meet Through Alternative Means
To financially support herself, Monk has turned to selling her personal wardrobe on the resale platform Vinted and creating personalised video messages for fans via the Cameo service. She expressed a particular enjoyment for 'roasting' videos or Valentine's messages, humorously noting a preference for saying 'really horrible things to nice couples'.
She appealed to her followers for job suggestions, pitching herself as a brilliant party host or podcast presenter. 'Have someone who is straight talking, not wokey wokey wokey and funny, I think I'm funny,' she said. 'I laugh all the time at myself, because I'm a f***ing failure. You know that?'
Reflecting on Her Big Brother Experience
Monk directly attributed her employment struggles to her behaviour on Big Brother, where she was famously dubbed the 'villain' of the series by both housemates and viewers. She was the ninth contestant to be evicted.
'I can't even go on Big Brother and do well. I have to put my big feet in my mouth all the bloody time,' she reflected. 'Probably ruined it for myself in there, but that's because I don't think before I talk. Everyone says I have ADHD. I probably have, I wish I did have a label. If I'd of said I was a lesbian with ADHD I might have got on. But I haven't got a label so I'm just a silly cow really. That's it, I need to get a label. So if you can think of a job for me and a label, I think I'll be alright.'
Revelations About Her Past with Matthew Wright
During her time in the Big Brother house, Monk revealed details of her past engagement to television host Matthew Wright, which stunned her fellow housemates. The relationship, which occurred in the early 2000s, ended abruptly despite a proposal during a holiday in Canada.
Monk described how Wright proposed on a Canadian plain after a cowboy dance, purchasing a ring she had designed in her mind. However, the relationship deteriorated soon after their return, leading to a split. Matthew Wright, now sixty, is happily married to Amelia Gatte, with whom he shares a daughter, Cassady, born in 2019 after a challenging eight-year IVF journey.
A Career in Public Relations
Prior to her reality television fame, Caroline Monk enjoyed a long-standing career in public relations, working with high-profile clients including Kylie Minogue, Dionne Warwick, and the band The Who. She has also made previous television appearances, such as on the ITV talk show Lorraine. Her current predicament highlights the potential long-term career impacts of participating in reality television, a theme she continues to grapple with publicly.
