Amanda Holden Declares 'The Old Simon Cowell Is Back' on Britain's Got Talent

Amanda Holden has confidently announced that her fellow Britain's Got Talent judge Simon Cowell has fully returned to his former self, shedding the toned-down 'Mr Soft' act that characterised his recent years on the hit ITV talent show. As the new series kicked off on February 21st, Holden expressed her delight at witnessing Cowell's revival of sharp, unfiltered commentary, marking a significant shift from his previously softened demeanour.

The Return of Infamous One-Liners

Holden, who serves as a judge alongside Cowell, explained that the change is partly influenced by the presence of new panellist KSI, known for his brutally honest assessments. She noted that Cowell is now done with 'sugar coating' his feedback, embracing instead his trademark straightforward style. "Simon is back," Holden stated, adding, "I'm glad to see that Simon is no longer being soft serve ice-cream, although it was nice for a year or so!"

The Heart Radio host emphasised that this series feels "very loose and very chaotic," with KSI contributing succinct answers that complement Cowell's reinvigorated approach. Holden is particularly enjoying that Simon's "one liners are better than ever," suggesting a dynamic and entertaining judging panel.

Viewer Reactions and Golden Buzzer Controversy

Despite the judges' enthusiasm, the new series has already sparked frustration among viewers at home. During the first episode, fans voiced concerns over the 'overuse' of the golden buzzer, a mechanism that allows judges to send contestants directly to the semi-finals. Presenters Ant and Dec reminded audiences of its purpose, but the frequency of its use has drawn criticism.

Amanda Holden, however, has promised that this series will be packed with drama and surprises. Simon Cowell has assured fans of "lots of surprises," including more behind-the-scenes footage that offers a glimpse "behind the Wizard of Oz's curtain."

Amanda's Brief Stint as Head Judge

In a revealing aside, Holden admitted she "hated" temporarily stepping into Cowell's head judge role after he missed filming due to a fall down some steps that resulted in a head injury. During this brief shake-up, X Factor runner-up Stacey Solomon joined as a guest judge.

Holden described feeling "very outcast" in the head judge seat, noting that while Cowell has support from staff and family on set, her own team preferred to "eat my snacks and sit in the dressing room paying no attention." She clarified, "I never want to sit in that seat again! I'm juicy in the middle, it’s such a good spot."

Praise for Guest Judge Stacey Solomon

Speaking about Stacey Solomon's involvement, Holden praised her as "lovely" and highlighted their similar judging styles. "She's warm, she’s super funny, she has a great understanding of what it's like to be on the other side," Holden said, referencing Solomon's past experience as an X Factor contestant.

Holden added that Solomon remains "down to earth" without an ego, making her a fitting addition to the panel. "We're all fans of her and her crafting is through the roof. If only I could be that type of mother!" she remarked.

As Britain's Got Talent continues to unfold, audiences can expect a blend of chaos, candid critiques, and the much-anticipated return of Simon Cowell's iconic bluntness, all set against a backdrop of golden buzzer debates and behind-the-scenes insights.
