British Prime Minister Keir Starmer vowed to “choke off” Russian revenue with further sanctions and announced hundreds of millions of pounds in energy support, including enriched uranium for Ukraine’s nuclear plants.
French President Emmanuel Macron said he wanted the US to affirm its commitment to Ukraine and increase pressure on Russia for meaningful negotiations. German Chancellor Friedrich Merz expressed hope for a diplomatic opening, while Trump said he believed both Ukraine and Russia were open to peace talks.
Ukraine continued its drone campaign against Russian infrastructure, setting an oil depot ablaze in the Krasnodar region and hitting two bridges in the Kherson region. The attacks have caused fuel supply disruptions and panic-buying in southern Russia. Meanwhile, a Russian Tu-22M3 bomber crashed in Siberia during a training flight, with the crew ejecting safely.
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy condemned a Russian drone attack on Kyiv’s Unesco-listed Pechersk Lavra monastery, calling it “one of Russia’s most serious crimes against Christian culture.” Russia denied targeting the site, claiming a Ukrainian Patriot missile was responsible, but evidence at the scene pointed to Shahed-type drones. The overnight barrage killed 11 people across Ukraine.
In Kharkiv, a drone struck the city zoo, killing ten rabbits and injuring other animals, including an elephant. Separately, Russia is reportedly allowing the sale of substandard fuel as Ukrainian attacks on oil infrastructure squeeze supplies, with sulphur levels up to 15 times the European limit.
