FIFA's ban on Iran's pre-revolutionary flag during the World Cup tournament will remain following a late meeting just before the nation's tournament opener. Iran take on New Zealand at 2am BST on Tuesday morning.

The flag is similar to the official flag but also features a lion and sun motif in the middle. It is associated with the previous regime which was overthrown in 1979.
