Rod Stewart has confirmed he is "on the mend" after undergoing emergency heart surgery, which forced the cancellation of his upcoming shows. The 81-year-old rock legend was rushed to hospital on August 9 after struggling to catch his breath on stage, where he had a coronary stent fitted.
Four-week recovery and tour cancellations
In an official statement, Stewart said he is doing well, but doctors have mandated a four-week recovery period to help him regain full fitness. The medical procedure led to the cancellation of the remaining North American and Mexican tour dates, including shows in Cincinnati and Cleveland, as well as a Caesars Palace residency.
Prior health incidents on stage
The emergency hospital dash came after troubling concert incidents, including recent footage of him breathing heavily mid-song and a June performance where he nearly fainted and required an oxygen tank.
Support from wife and fans
His wife, Penny Lancaster, publicly expressed her support with an emotional tribute post set to his hit 'You're In My Heart'. Stewart thanked medical staff and apologised to disappointed fans.
