Sun cream banned from UK sale as shoppers warned it is 'high risk'
Sun cream banned from UK sale over 'high risk' warning

The Bubble Cosmetics Sunscreen Pack has been rejected at the UK border and cannot be sold to UK customers, after the Office for Product Safety and Standards (OPSS) declared it a “high risk” product.

The OPSS said the product, which comes from the United States, poses a risk due to inadequate labelling and traceability information. The brand is sold in a range of UK retailers, including Boots and ASOS, as well as on its own website.

Risk due to labelling failures

“The product presents a risk due to inadequate labelling and traceability information,” the OPSS said. “Multiple mandatory cosmetic labelling requirements have not been met, including omissions relating to sunscreen use instructions and product traceability.”

“As a result, consumers may not have sufficient information to use the product appropriately, and effective regulatory traceability is impaired.”

The affected product is a yellow cardboard box filled with a range of Bubble sun cream items. The OPSS added: “The product does not meet the requirements of Regulation (EC) 1223/2009 (‘the Cosmetics Regulation’).”

Separate recall for cleansing water

Over the weekend, customers were issued a warning about another cosmetic product. Simple 730ml Kind to Skin Micellar Cleansing Water has been pulled from sale as some bottles may be affected by microbiological contamination.

The product is commonly used to remove makeup and cleanse the face. The recall applies to specific batches of the cleansing water which were sold at B&M, Home Bargains and Savers.

Shoppers should check bottles for the barcode 8720181894381. The two batch numbers affected by the recall are 613841 and 613941.

Action for affected customers

Anyone with the affected products has been told to stop using them “immediately”. Customers who have purchased one of the recalled bottles should contact the retailer they bought it from for instructions on returning or disposing of the product, as well as information about a refund or other redress.

Consumers can also contact the Simple care line for further information by calling 0800 146 252 or emailing ukicare@unilever.com. Bubble has been contacted for comment.
