An urgent 'do not eat' warning has been issued for a popular chocolate after it was found to be contaminated with salmonella. The product has now been recalled and shoppers are being urged to return any purchased items to the store where they were bought.
Products affected by the recall
World of Sweets has recalled its Dubai Style Crunchy Knafeh and Pistachio Milk Chocolate and Alyan Dubai Style Chocolate Truffles after salmonella was found to be present in the products.
Issuing a product recall notice, World of Sweets said: "Salmonella has been detected in ALYAN Dubai Style Milk Chocolate with Pistachio Filling and Knafeh, Lot Code NM026A. As a precaution, customers who have purchased the affected product should not eat it."
It continued: "Do not consume the affected product. Please keep the affected product and its packaging separate from other food."
What shoppers should do
The recall affects 120g batches of the Alyan Dubai Style Chocolate Truffles with the product code 319456 as well as 100g batches of the Alyan Dubai Style Crunchy Knafeh and Pistachio Milk Chocolate with the product code 318591.
On the recall the FSA added: "If you have bought any of the above products do not eat it. Instead, return it to the store from where it was bought for a full refund."
Shoppers will also find point of sale notices in all retail stores that are selling these products, detailing why the products are being recalled. They will also include advice on what to do if you have bought a recalled product.
Symptoms of salmonella
Symptoms of salmonella include fever, diarrhoea and abdominal cramps, according to the Foods Standards Agency (FSA), and anyone with these symptoms is urged to stay away from work, school or nursery until the symptoms have passed for at least 48 hours.
